Last updated: October 18, 2026 8:00:00 AM
Whether you are staring at muddy paw prints in the hallway, stubborn kitchen grease, or bathroom tiles that have lost their luster, keeping hard floors pristine is a constant battle. Most of us have spent too much time on our hands and knees with a manual scrub brush, wondering if there is a more efficient way to restore that “new floor” shine without the physical strain.
The Ewbank EP170 Floor Cleaner 2026 is often presented as the solution to this domestic dilemma. Marketed as a versatile 3-in-1 tool, it promises to handle cleaning, scrubbing, and polishing tasks in a single lightweight unit. Unlike industrial-grade buffers that are heavy and difficult to maneuver, this unit is built with the home user in mind, weighing in at approximately 8 lbs.
It features a dual-head design with contra-rotating discs that spin at high speeds to agitate dirt or buff in floor treatments. The product usually comes with a variety of attachments, including:
- Nylon Bristle Brushes: For heavy-duty scrubbing on durable surfaces.
- Scrubbing Pads: Designed for general cleaning and removing scuffs.
- Polishing/Buffing Pads: Microfiber pads used to bring a high-gloss finish to sealed wood or stone.
One of its most notable design features is the telescopic “butterfly” handle, which can be adjusted for height or collapsed for one-handed operation in tight spaces.
Marketing Claims & How It’s Supposed to Work
Ewbank positions the EP170 as an “all-in-one” floor care system. The core of its marketing revolves around the power of its 160W motor and the 2,200 RPM rotation speed of its discs. According to the manufacturer, this speed—roughly twice that of a standard spin dryer—allows users to cover about 10 square feet per minute with minimal effort.

Independent Evidence & Red Flags
While the Ewbank EP170 Floor Cleaner 2026 is a well-established tool from a brand with over 130 years of history, it is important to distinguish between “commercial-style” results and “industrial-grade” power.
Potential Red Flags to Consider:
- Weight vs. Pressure: Because the unit is intentionally lightweight (8 lbs), it lacks the natural “downward pressure” of professional buffers. Users may find themselves needing to apply manual pressure for deep-set stains.
- Corded Limitation: Unlike modern cordless spin scrubbers, the EP170 relies on a 23-foot power cord. While this ensures consistent power, it can be a tripping hazard or a nuisance in very large, open-plan homes.
- Grout Performance: While the brushes can reach into some grout lines, the flat-disc design is primarily optimized for the surface of the tile rather than deep, recessed crevices.

Reviews for the Ewbank EP170 Floor Cleaner 2026 are generally positive, though they highlight a clear learning curve.
- The Positives: Many users praise the machine for its ability to “bring back the glow” to old hardwood and laminate floors. Renters and homeowners with large tiled areas frequently note that it significantly reduces the time spent on routine maintenance compared to a traditional mop.
- The Limitations: A common critique is that the white scrubbing pads can wear down quickly if used on very rough or uneven surfaces. Some users have also noted that if the floor is too wet, the machine can “walk” or skip across the surface rather than staying steady.
Ultimately, the consensus suggests that results depend heavily on the solution used and the frequency of cleaning. It is more of a “maintenance” tool than a “miracle worker” for floors that haven’t been cleaned in years.

Safety & Usage Tips:
- Test First: Always test a small, inconspicuous area before using the scrubbing brushes or polishing pads on the entire floor.
- Avoid Excess Water: This machine does not have a vacuum or “recovery” tank. Use only the amount of liquid necessary to avoid pooling.
- Check Seals: Ensure your wood or laminate floors are properly sealed; using a mechanical scrubber on unsealed or damaged wood can lead to moisture damage.
- Maintenance: Wash the microfiber pads after every use to prevent dirt from being “redistributed” across the floor next time.
Conclusion
The Ewbank EP170 Floor Cleaner 2026 is a solid, mid-range option for those looking to automate their floor care. It excels at buffing and light-to-medium scrubbing, providing a significant upgrade over a manual mop. However, it isn’t an industrial-grade “stripper,” and very tough grime may still require a bit of manual “elbow grease.” For the price, it offers a practical balance of ease-of-use and mechanical efficiency for the average household.
